Vintage 40s W. W. II Hand Carved Folk Art Signed Military Totem Skull Eagle WC 57

  
This vintage 40's W. W II hand carved wood totem is in very good condition. There are all sorts of symbols and clues to the carvings origin. First, it is marked WC 57 which is the model number for the Military Dodge command car. The command car was used to transport high ranking officials or for front line missions. I would assume the latter, as this totem has the names of several troops carved into the body. They are: one side - L. Harder and the other side: H. The Front has the soldiers names - D.

The other carvings suggest a life or death mission... A Pig, an Owl, a Skull, a Face, an Eagle and the early good luck symbol for Germany. This totem measures 24" in height and 2 1/2" by 2 1/2. Cut from one piece of wood, This sculpture is hand painted. I do not know the maker, most likely one of the names presented.
