(Bald Eagle ready to fly from branch). I designed this so the grain of the wood flows with the feathers and the feet to maintain strength and stability in the piece. I achieved this by gluing 2 pieces of wood together and then carving as one piece. This carving is 37" high by 17 1/2" wide.

This is an original relief wood carving that I designed and carved in my studio. I used burning along with painting on my custom mixed stains to achieve the colors. I use these methods as they bring out the beauty of the wildlife without hiding the beauty of the wood.

PROCESS: The medium used is kiln dried Pine. I drew my original design out on the wood, and cut and roughed it out with saws and grinders , and carved the details with grinders. I then burned some of the coloring on this sculpture. I prepared the wood with a coat of a penetrating oil-base finish, and then hand brushed on my custom mixed stains. Then I brushed on two coats of U.

The final topcoat has a "Semi-Gloss" sheen to give the underwater scene a wetter look. The back is flat for wall mounting.

On the back I attached 2 flush mount hangers. I signed and dated the back.
