The last photo shows everything that is burned before any painting. As this carving hangs on the wall it is approx. 32 1/2" high by 16" wide.

This is an original relief wood carving that I designed and carved in my studio. I laminated three pieces of wood together(running the wood grain with the feathers to increase strength) and then carved this as one piece. I used burning along with painting on my own custom mixed stains and ink to achieve the coloring. I use these methods as they bring out the beauty of the wildlife without hiding the beauty of the wood.

PROCESS: The medium used is kiln dried Pine. I drew my original design out on the wood, and cut and roughed it out with saws and grinders , and carved the details with grinders. I then burned some of the coloring on this sculpture with a torch, and finished up with grinders and sanders.

I then prepared the wood with a coat of a penetrating oil-base finish, hand brushed on some stains and finally brushed on two coats of a quality U. Resistant Spar Urethane with a "Satin" sheen. The back is flat for wall mounting. On the back I hand carved a flush mount hanger for a nail, screw, etc. To hang it on a wall.
