EAGLE AND SERPENT / SNAKE SCULPTURE. THE WAR OF GOOD AND EVIL!

UNIQUE / VINTAGE / HUGE. This wonderful, amazing sculpture was found at one of the many estate sales I have visited.

Unfortunately there is no history to provide, other than the actual object. This appears to be an original hand sculpture done from one piece of wood. It depicts an eagle on a perch / tree with a snake in its beak. I have no idea as to what type of wood it is.

Overall the sculpture appears to be in wonderful condition. There are two small cracks, as pictured, probably from natural aging and humidity change differences. These definitely are not structural!

I have tried to picture them as best as I could. There is also some writing on the bottom. There is no signature other than that. In my research, I ran across this interesting story.

The symbolism of a snake in the grasp of an eagle crosses a number of cultures, including the coat of arms of Mexico, the Tenochtitlan (Aztec) culture of Mexico, and Roman and Greek cultures. The symbolism may also have religious connotations; it also represents the triumph of good over evil. All in all, this is a well - done wood hand carving with interesting and historic subject matter that we think stems from the mid 1900's.
