1800s Antique Mexican Hand Carved Folk Art Cane Eagle Soldier Train Horse

  

This is an Antique Mexican Hand Carved Folk Art Cane. The cane is made of a rich hardwood that is either naturally spotted or wood burned for decoration. It has a total of 9 figures carved into it. At the top there is an Eagle with a snake in its mouth and standing on a cactus with a snapping turtle below it. Next there is a soldier on one side and matador on the other.

Next is a soldier with a flag on one side and a steam locomotive on the other. Next is a rider on a horse on one side and man with a sword on the other. Next is maybe a native man on on side and native woman on the other. All of these figures are how I interpret them, I may be wrong as to what they are.

The bottom tip of the cane looks like horn and has a hole in it from wear. The carvings are in high relief and are very nice.

It is hard to describe how gorgeous this cane is but I know you will love it. I think it is from the late 1800s because of its rich patina. Also the depiction of the train is a very old style. The cane is very strong and heavy wood. It has some nicks in it and a few age cracks. It has nice age appropriate wear to the top where your hand would rest.

This truly is a nice older folk art cane and doesnt look like the crappy modern tourist pieces that are every where. It measures about 34 7/8 long.
